Anti-Slavery International
This world is torn at the seams, and the majority of the people that can sew it back together are overlooking issues like slavery and human trafficking. Can you picture yourself being abused, having to beg for food, and not having the freedom to explore the outside world? Can you imagine working vigorously day and night, while your ‘owners’ impose threats of violence over you? The Anti-Slavery International (ASI) non-governmental organization (NGO) is the ONLY NGO in all of the United Kingdom that is focused on solving the pandemonium that we all know as slavery (Source). This problem is still etched in our world, even after centuries of its brutal history. Specifically, the Anti-Slavery International non-governmental organization is the world’s oldest human rights NGO in the world as it was founded in the year 1839 (Source). Established by Thomas Clarkson (Source), this group has over 200 years of history. Currently, ASI is run by a man named Aidan Mcquade (Source) and is still branching out to various parts of the world. In particular, the NGO is currently attempting to solve slavery related issues in the Philippines (Source), although it is based in London, England. (Source) This NGO is a very diverse group of people working in different countries to help bring an end to all the pain that people have to endure as slaves.
To help clear the muddled minds of those who are not educated about slavery, Anti-Slavery International makes efficient use of the immense and strong tool we all have come to know as the internet. The non-governmental organization works on an international level, operating in India, China, Dubai, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, the United States of America and other countries (Source 1/Source 2). Their job is mainly to seek to educate the public about slavery, using posters, videos and speeches (Source). Furthermore, they also support any research that has been made to aid the reduction of slavery. In addition to that, they also attempt to persuade different governments and parliaments around the globe to aid their cause (Source). Despite their efforts, slavery is still found in all places and masses of people are suffering. The world is a frightening place, it looks like a horror movie in the eyes of those who truly see it. Slavery is just one problem, but solving it is one step closer to redeeming ourselves as the human race. You can change the world and take that step, but would you do it?
